We were down, but we're back.

    Hi, all.

As I'm sure all of you noticed, we were out of commission for about a day. This was due to a remodel of the total Curve site.

In fact, you'll notice the boards have a different URL now. www.curvemag.com/speak is no longer around and curveconversations.com is our new home.

We'll be doing a bit more housekeeping and upgrading the vBulletin software. I don't know when that will be complete, but I will keep you posted.

I don't get a chance often to say so, but you posters, and lurkers, are the reason we're here. You're appreciated and valued. I found Curve seven-plus years ago, after a nasty breakup. I was lonely and knew absolutely nobody but my ex and her family, and Curve was part of my therapy. I don't post much anymore, but this place is hallowed ground to me, and I know that's true for some of you as well. And for some of you, it's just a fun place to play while you're bored at work or at home.

In any case, thank you for your participation here. You're what makes this place so special.

    Thanks,
    Julie

I was wondering what had happened!
I logged on at one stage in the middle of the night US time and the whole Curve site was down, I thought that was it, another casualty of the credit crisis.
    Good to see it's back!

I'm what one would call a lurker, mostly because I don't know what to say most of the time. But I found Curve when I was 15 or 16, 7 odd years ago and it has been so important to me and been an amazing resource back in the lonely closet days.
And it's something I tell all my new gay recruits about!
Thanks curve, and thanks for the work you do here Ju1ie.

I was wondering what happened! Took me an entire day to figure out how to get on here. I hope I wasn't the only one...

You were not alone freedom. I thought I was the only one who couldn't find the door yesterday

Julie I think most of us understand that upgrading and housekeeping are necessary from time to time. We also appreciate the time and effort you and the moderators give of yourselves and for no personal gain to keep these boards the wonderfully welcoming and safe place that they are. But you know, a little forewarning would have saved a lot of people a lot of stress.

I will say one thing, I am thankful that I had some email addresses / myspace people to contact in my o-m-g-moments. lol. So, no, Freedom, you were certainly NOT alone!

I'm more of a lurker than a poster, only because everyone says exactly what I'm feeling mostly, but I would miss this site so much if it wasn't here any more. I don't say it, but you gals have helped me out more than a few times when I was feeling low, and all without you even knowing it!
I'm glad everyone is still here!!!!

    Thumbs up

    Very cool to be back!

I came back to the site the other day, after my computer had crashed over the weekend. I was using a 9 year old laptop and thought that maybe I couldn't get onto Curve because of the age of the computer. My other thought was that the site itself died because another site I frequent did that for a whole month! It all of a sudden went down in mid-August, and they just got it back up and running last week. So losing TW first and losing Curve threw me back for a minute. TW I don't care too much about anymore. I troll there as much as I've trolled around here lately. But I find myself speaking up more on Curve every so often then I do TW.

But at any rate, I'm rambling and I just want to say thanks to the IT people for creating and maintaining a wonderful site. Thanks to the Admins for keeping us in check. Thanks to the lurkers, the trollers, the regular posters for voicing your opinions, thoughts, feedback and what ever else is on your mind.

As some of you know, the Curve forums went down last week, and those of us who rely upon the forums for freedom of expression, found this very disconcerting. We have set up a Yahoo account as a backup.

Here's the link to the yahoo group we use as a backup.

    Curvecommunity

You'll need a Yahoo ID to join, but that's easy to get. It's just a place to reconnect if something happens to the boards here.

Also, the direct link into the forums without going through the magazine, (though we do love the magazine), is www.curveconversations.com

Yaay!!! It's back. I thought Curve had completely switched to Facebook and abandoned the board.

I finally joined the yahoo board as backup. Thanks to those who started it!

Our Community Guidelines:
The Curvemag Community boards are a private forum created to establish a cozy community among lesbian, bi, and questioning women and our allies. Our boards are moderated to help us achieve this goal and we ask that everyone respect the following rules:

1. Add something real to the mix. In most areas, one-liners and "me too" statements aren't enough to really get a conversation going. Longer, more substantial posts give others more of a sense of who you are and where you're coming from.
2. Don't be a bigot. Slanderous, defamatory, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening or harassing comments directed at individuals or groups of people are not tolerated.
3. Don't spam us. Advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes and other solicitations will be deleted. Period. If you have an announcement of legitimate interest to lesbians, post it to our announcements area only. Signatures may not contain url's or links to external sites.
4. Don't spam our members. Contacting a member privately without her express permission is inappropriate. (Instead, ask her permission by posting your request on the boards.) Don't email our members without their public permission. (Please understand that, by providing your email address when you register, you are giving Curve administrators and moderators permission to contact you via email.)
5. Stay with the subject at hand. It's not cool to throw an established conversation off-topic, but you can create a new topic if you like.
6. Keep it clean. Our boards are about building community. Sexually inappropriate messages will be deleted.

Folks who violate our rules may lose their posting privileges. Inappropriate posts can be removed by our moderators. We work very hard to keep the conversation going smoothly at Curvemag, but we can't be everywhere at once, so please let us know if there's a problem with a member abusing their posting privileges. Enjoy the boards!

Account Deletion Policy: Please note that we cannot delete user accounts. You can stop posting and you can edit your personal information on your account so that other users cannot contact you, but your posts, threads and username will remain on our site and in the public domain. This is why we advise extreme caution when you choose your username, and anytime you post personal information on this site. We cannot delete posts or threads, and we edit them only when the Curve Community guidelines have been breeched. This is because edits and deletions cause confusion, for instance when people read a thread where users quote and reply to posts that are no longer there.
